From our experience...

Dear Students!

Before I try to summarize what I said yesterday in class I want to thank you ALL for contributing to the class knowledge. There have been excellent presentations and we have learned from your experiences so much. You are indeed WONDERFUL!!! I am very proud of you!

Now, that the experience is almost over, now that you know how funny we can act in front of an audience and that we may realize the effort it means to talk in front of our colleagues, it’s time to think about how we can proceed to go on speaking and expressing our ideas… in ENGLISH of course!

From your comments, emails, class observations, notes… I see how eager you are to learn but how difficult it is sometimes to show what we have learned when we are so shy (and tired!). I reasoned yesterday the need to read about the topics we are not really familiar with to become more skilful with the specialized vocabulary. Learning requires effort, you know that! I know you are tired and come to class after a long working day but you are in class because you want to communicate more and more accurately every day. So, let’s make the effort!

There’s no need to say that the four hour classes a week are not enough. You need to do more on your own. You need to read articles or books about the topics you are interested in, watch movies and documentaries in the original version, listen to songs, trying to understand the lyrics… Do the things you like, but in ENGLISH!

As we suggested yesterday let’s open up a space on my blog where you can give your views. You can do it as your own selves or as bloggers”, that is to say with your nick names. Please, suggests topics you are really concerned with. Topics that would generate interesting and diverse debates. We are about to speak about fashion…. manipulation, consumerism, capitalism behind fashion… Any other topics?

I’ll be waiting for your suggestions.

Thanks! You are the best!

Hi Nuria!
I think the problem is the time, we haven't enough time!
I suggest we can speak about one of the news of the day (but perhaps we need the newspaper or a magazine...no! We have Internet!). We open one page at random, and we debate about it. If you know about it... speak! If you don't know...ask and learn!
Then, all of the class (in one order) we have to say something or ask to the others who know about it. All have to speak!! Is't it?
It's my idea, I don't know if it's a good idea but I've tried to help.

See you!

Hi nuria!

yes, to improve our english we need to dedicate time and sometimes have time to learn is very difficult but from my point of view is really interesting to speak once a week and in random about one topic, form example... education, environmental changes, inmigration.....
there are a lot of them. I'll search information on the net about certain topics and write some comments on my blog, I think it's a good idea, isn't it?

Thanks for your work

Hi, Nuria!

I've written some ideas of topics that we can discuss in class. I hope you like them. Thank you because you make an effort to encourage us with English, you really do your best. But please, don't stop sleeping at night because you're worried for us as you told us in class. Each one does as much as he/she wants/can and we are responsible for ourselves. Thank you again.

See you!

Hi Nuria! I've written a new post about one of my first experiences in China.

Hi Núria,

I agree with you, we have to learn doing what we like. I think that to comment articles in class could be a good idea, even more if the theme is about current situation.
Also I would like to encourage people to speak more and louder at class, because sometimes I feel we don't and from my expirience I know that's one of the better ways to learn.

I have to tell you that blogs is not bad way to learn, and to inform about events or to show new tools like dictionary, books and so on. But I haven't internet connection at home, and not much time to spend going to a coffe-internet, so is not easy to learn that way to me. And I'm worry about that.

I know I haven't write yet on my blog, but I have one wich doesn't appear on the list. The name is workingonart and the adress is http://workingonart.blogspirit.com. I'll try to write something next weekend. It doesn't mind I am not learning english, I'm doing it, a lot, but reading, watching films, traveling, speaking in class, doing homeworks.

Thank you.
